Ribo Flavin and all of its members hail from the mountains of El Paso, Texas. This collective multitude of musicians fuse hip hop, jazz, funk and soul to break musical boundaries that super-cede genre and definability. The band takes influence from The Roots, Ozomatli, Soulive and A Tribe Called Quest.
Drummer Eddie Provencio, bassist Guiesppe "Bruno" Avitia and MCs Jay "Rebel Agnostic" Gomez, and Frank Ramos started the band in 2009. Guitarist Adrian Loya joined a few months later. They intended to "just jam together," recruiting friends and other local talent along the way. Past incarnations have included trumpet player Michael Frisbey of the D.A., singers Selina Nevarez (Chuco Soul Project), keyboardist Jean-Luc Duvalier (Bulletproof Tiger), jazz singer Candice Reyes and Dj Systemadict. Notes jazz musicians and instructors Marty Olivas and Erik Unsworth also have played with the band. They rehearsed at a rented storage unit and basements, but once they got to the Glasbox, a local artist incubator, they knew something was brewing. The band started recording its first album with producer Charles Godfrey at Sonic Ranch in May 2012. Internationally known jazz saxophonist Mack Goldsbury, Polish trumpeter Maciej Fortuna and singer Marilyn Castillo chipped in.” - William Vega
